Nextdoor ads cost whatever daily or lifetime budget you set, because Nextdoor sells its self-serve ads in an auction rather than at a fixed price. From a business page you can pay as you go, billed after your ads run, or take a monthly subscription charged upfront at your daily budget times 30 with a 10 percent discount. In Ads Manager you bid a fixed CPM, the price per 1,000 impressions, or let Nextdoor optimize for clicks or conversions. Nextdoor does not publish an average CPM or a rate card, so the honest way to price it is to work backward from the lead cost you already pay on Google.

This guide is written for plumbers, HVAC companies, roofers, cleaners, landscapers and other home service businesses deciding whether to put part of next month's budget on Nextdoor. Every billing rule below comes from Nextdoor's own help center and creative specifications, read in October 2026. Where we use an example number, we say so.
How Nextdoor charges for ads
There are two doors into Nextdoor advertising, and they bill differently. A local business usually starts from the Ads tab on its free business page. A business that wants more control, or an agency running several accounts, uses Nextdoor Ads Manager.
| Where you buy | How you set spend | When you are charged | How you bid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business page, Pay as You Go | Daily budget, runs until paused | When your billable balance reaches your billing threshold, and on the 1st of each month | Set by Nextdoor from your goal |
| Business page, Monthly Subscription | Daily budget times 30, 10 percent discount | Upfront, every month on the day you signed up, until you cancel | Set by Nextdoor from your goal |
| Ads Manager, Daily Goal | What you want to spend each day | Added to your billable balance, charged at the threshold | Fixed CPM, or optimize for impressions, clicks or conversions |
| Ads Manager, Lifetime Budget | One total for a campaign with set start and end dates | Added to your billable balance, charged at the threshold | Same options as Daily Goal |
On a business page you pick one of three goals (Promote My Business, Drive Website Visits or Get New Leads), upload a logo and an image, write a headline and body, and choose a button such as Message Me or Call Now. Nextdoor says the ad goes live within 24 hours after review. If you cancel a subscription, it keeps running to the end of the billing cycle, so a subscription is a monthly commitment in practice. Pay as You Go campaigns can be paused at any time, and you still owe the balance already built up.
In Ads Manager, the choice that changes your cost most is the bid. With Fixed CPM you always pay the CPM you entered. With Auto Bid, Nextdoor keeps the bid as low as it can while trying to spend your daily budget. With Max Bid you cap what you will pay per impression, click or conversion, and your ads may underspend if other advertisers bid higher. Conversion bidding (CPA) needs the Nextdoor Pixel installed and tracking events, and Nextdoor says it will try, but does not guarantee, to stay under your CPA bid.
What does a Nextdoor ad budget buy?
On a CPM bid, the arithmetic is simple, and Nextdoor publishes it: daily budget times 1,000, divided by your CPM, equals expected daily impressions. Its own example is a $100 daily goal at a $10 fixed CPM, which buys about 10,000 impressions a day. The table uses the same $10 CPM for every row. That is Nextdoor's illustration, not an average price, and your real CPM depends on the ZIP codes, audience and competition.
| Daily budget | Pay as You Go, 30 days | Monthly Subscription | Impressions per month at a $10 CPM |
|---|---|---|---|
| $5 | $150 | $135 | 15,000 |
| $10 | $300 | $270 | 30,000 |
| $20 | $600 | $540 | 60,000 |
| $50 | $1,500 | $1,350 | 150,000 |
| $100 | $3,000 | $2,700 | 300,000 |
Nextdoor's older budget guidance for business page ads, from 2022, suggested $3, $5 or $10 a day. Those are a sensible floor for testing one service in a handful of ZIP codes. A contractor covering a whole metro area with several services will spend more, and should split the budget by service rather than run one ad for everything.
Neighborhood Sponsorships
Nextdoor still sells Neighborhood Sponsorships, a separate product sold by ZIP code with a limited number of spots per ZIP. A sponsor gets two posts per month in the ZIP code, its business profile shown as the advertisement, and ways for members to contact it directly from the home section of the app. Nextdoor does not publish a sponsorship price on its site, and the prices quoted in third-party guides vary widely, so check availability and the quote for your own ZIP codes before you compare it with a self-serve budget.
Nextdoor vs Google Local Services Ads cost for home service businesses
Google bills Local Services Ads per lead, while Nextdoor bills per impression. To compare them, turn your Google lead price into the number of Nextdoor impressions it would buy. If a Nextdoor ad produces a lead in fewer impressions than that, it is cheaper per lead than Google for that service.
| Trade | Median Google LSA charged lead | Nextdoor impressions the same money buys at a $10 CPM |
|---|---|---|
| Roofing | $130.74 | 13,074 |
| Plumbing | $79.61 | 7,961 |
| Landscaping | $63.39 | 6,339 |
| Tree services | $57.90 | 5,790 |
| Electrical | $55.33 | 5,533 |
| Painting | $44.39 | 4,439 |
| Carpet cleaning | $32.07 | 3,207 |
| House cleaning | $30.25 | 3,025 |
The Google figures are 99 Calls' median charged lead by industry for Local Services Ads, from its client campaigns over the last three months, updated October 2026. Impressions per lead on Nextdoor equal one divided by your click-through rate times the share of clicks that become a lead. As an illustration only, an ad with a 0.5 percent click-through rate and a 10 percent click-to-lead rate needs 20,000 impressions per lead, which is $200 at a $10 CPM. Double either rate and the cost per lead halves. That is why the creative decides whether Nextdoor is cheap or expensive for you, more than the bid.
The pattern most home service owners find is that Google wins on urgent jobs, because the homeowner with a burst pipe searches instead of scrolling, and Nextdoor competes on planned and recurring work where a neighbor's trust matters: lawn care, cleaning, painting, pest control plans, gutter cleaning, seasonal tune-ups. If you are setting the Google side of the budget too, how much Google Ads cost for contractors breaks down search and Local Services Ads costs by trade.
What Nextdoor ads need from your creative
Nextdoor publishes its creative specs for Ads Manager. The newsfeed image ad is the format most home service businesses use.
| Element | Nextdoor newsfeed spec |
|---|---|
| Image | 1200 x 628 px (1.91:1) or 1200 x 1200 px (1:1), JPEG or PNG, up to 150 MB |
| Logo | 100 x 100 px, cropped to a circle |
| Headline | 70 characters |
| Body copy | 1,700 characters, 90 shown before truncation |
| Button text | 45 characters (30 on carousel cards) |
| Carousel | 2 to 10 square images, at least 1200 x 1200 px |
| Video | 2 to 300 seconds, 16:9 or 1:1, MP4 or MOV, under 30 seconds with subtitles recommended |
| Lead form | 2 to 11 fields, a privacy policy link required |
One detail to watch: Nextdoor's business page help article lists the ad image as 1200 x 628 at a 16:9 ratio, while its creative specs page calls the same size 1.91:1. The pixel size is what matters, and 1200 x 628 is 1.91:1, the same landscape shape Google display and Meta feed ads use, so one landscape image can serve all three.
Nextdoor's own best practices are worth following because they come from its delivery data. It says click-through rate rises 15 percent when the creative is personalized with a location, and you can type {{neighborhood}} or {{city}} in lowercase into the headline or body to insert it for each viewer. It says click-through rate is 10 percent higher when text covers less than a quarter of the image, recommends lifestyle photos over white backgrounds, and does not support emojis in ad copy. Write the way you would talk to a neighbor, and put the offer in the first 90 characters of the body, because that is all most people see.
Are Nextdoor ads worth it for contractors?
Nextdoor ads are worth it for contractors whose customers choose on trust and proximity, and whose jobs are planned rather than urgent. Nextdoor says 74 percent of its members are homeowners and every member has a verified address, so the audience fits home services well. Emergency trades usually do better putting the first dollar into Google, then using Nextdoor for maintenance plans and seasonal offers.
The businesses that get poor results on Nextdoor tend to run one generic image, a headline about the company instead of the job, and no local reference. The ones that do well run a separate ad per service with a neighborhood name in the copy, a real photo, and a reason to act this month.
Are Nextdoor ads free?
No. A Nextdoor business page is free, and you can post to it and collect recommendations without paying, but ads in the newsfeed and other placements are paid, whether you buy them from the business page or in Ads Manager. Neighborhood Sponsorships are a separate paid product sold by ZIP code.
How much should a home service business spend on Nextdoor?
Start with one service you want more of, in the ZIP codes you already serve profitably, at $10 to $20 a day on Pay as You Go so you can stop without waiting for a billing cycle. Nextdoor recommends giving its model about 7 days to learn before judging performance and another 7 days after each change to targeting or creative, so plan on at least two weeks per test. Count leads and booked jobs, not clicks. If the cost per booked job beats what you pay on Google for the same service, move to a subscription for the 10 percent discount and add a second service.
Landscapers and lawn care companies are usually the quickest to see whether Nextdoor works, because one recurring contract pays for months of ads. When those leads come in, you can measure the property from satellite imagery and price the job before you drive out, which matters when a neighborhood campaign brings several requests from the same street in one week.
Building the ads
If you are still choosing between channels, Nextdoor vs Facebook ads for home service businesses compares audience, targeting and billing and lays out a two week test.
The part of Nextdoor advertising you control most is the creative, and it is also the part most owners skip. AdsCreator's home services ad builder software turns a service page into a 1200 x 628 and a 1200 x 1200 image with a headline and a short body that fit Nextdoor's limits, along with the Google and Facebook versions of the same ad. Build one set per service, swap the neighborhood token into the copy, and test two images against each other. The Nextdoor ads maker shows example ads by trade written to those limits. If a trade-specific page fits you better, start from the plumber ad maker or carpet cleaning advertising, and pricing lists every plan.
