Google Ads for mobile auto detailing cost about $4 per click and $26 per lead in 2026, making detailing the second cheapest of 27 home service trades to buy a lead in, behind only mobile mechanic at $13. Those figures come from 99 Calls, which publishes cost per lead from 361 home service Google Ads accounts it manages and average cost per click by industry. The monthly median ran from $17 in March to $31 in July, and the most efficient tenth of detailing advertisers paid about $20 per lead while the most expensive tenth paid about $33.

That is a much narrower spread than most trades see, and it is a much lower number than the $5 to $9 click and $1,500 a month floor that circulates on agency pages. Below is every figure worth budgeting with and the sample behind it, what a lead costs by detailing service, why ceramic coating refuses to behave like the rest, what Local Services Ads ask of a detailer, and how to size a monthly budget on cost per booked job instead of cost per lead.

How much does an auto detailing lead cost on Google Ads?

A typical mobile auto detailing company paid a median of $26 per Google Ads lead in 2026. A lead here is a phone call or form submission from a real prospect, not a click, and the figure is ad spend only, without management fees and without Local Services Ads. 99 Calls publishes an industry month only when at least three advertisers reported leads, and mobile detailing had three to five advertisers per month, so this is a thin base. January is not published at all. Read it as a range to plan with.

Month, 2026Most efficient tenthMedian advertiserMost expensive tenthAdvertisers
February$16$20$384
March$14$17$263
April$14$20$273
May$20$29$624
June$20$26$305
July$24$31$345
August$20$28$334

Three things in that table are worth acting on. The median barely moved, sitting between $17 and $31 across seven months, which is unusual: pool service swung from $142 to $330 over the same period and HVAC from $207 to $381. Detailing is a planable channel. The cheapest stretch was late winter into early spring, before the season gets busy and before other detailers turn their budgets on. And May is the warning: the efficient tenth paid $20 while the expensive tenth paid $62, a three times gap inside the same month and the same auction. That gap is not the market. It is campaign structure, geography and what the ad shows.

The same firm reports a slightly different cut of the same period in its dedicated detailing report, putting the average of the monthly medians at about $24 and its current nationwide range at roughly $16 to $33 per lead. Either way the answer to the question is the same: budget $20 to $30 per lead and treat anything over $40 as a signal to look at the campaign, not the market.

What does a detailing lead cost by service?

This is where detailing gets more useful than most trades, because 99 Calls broke its search term data out by the service people searched for. The lead prices land close together. The jobs behind them do not.

General and mobile detailing searches produced 884 of the tracked leads, far more than any single service, at about $25 each. That matters because broad searches usually get written off as expensive, and here they were not: they delivered the volume at close to the cheapest price in the set.

Boat and RV detailing is the standout. It carried the highest click price in the table at $4.94 and still produced the cheapest lead, because 24.3 percent of those clicks turned into an inquiry, against roughly 15 percent everywhere else. Someone searching for boat detailing is not browsing. If you own a pressure washer, an extractor and a trailer you can reach a marina or an RV park with, that is the least contested traffic in the table.

The exterior and paint care row rests on only 20 tracked leads, so treat the $21 as a direction rather than a benchmark. And ceramic coating is the row that is not there: 99 Calls found ceramic coating searches in the data but only four tracked leads, too few to publish. That is an honest gap, and it tells you something. Coating buyers research for days, compare brands and warranties, read reviews, and rarely call from the first click. Budget for coating as a retargeting and proof job, not a click and book job.

Why are auto detailing clicks so cheap?

Because the auction is shallow. Across the 27 industries 99 Calls reports on, mobile detailing averaged $4.03 per click on 4,066 clicks in 2026, with campaign averages from $2.40 to $5.97. Only mobile mechanic came in lower at $3.93. Here is where detailing sits against the trades it competes with for a homeowner's attention.

TradeAverage cost per click, 2026Median cost per lead, 2026
Mobile mechanic$3.93$13
Mobile auto detailing$4.03$26

Plumbing$26.19$150
Pool service$27.26$240
HVAC$29.52$247
Restoration services$52.30$637

A roofer pays six times what you pay for a click and eleven times what you pay for a lead. That is the advantage, and it is worth being blunt about how thoroughly it gets wasted. At a 15.8 percent click to lead rate on general detailing searches, five of every six people who click your ad never contact you. On a $500 test that is roughly $420 spent on visitors who left. You cannot bid your way out of that, and you do not need to, because the click is already cheap. The only lever that matters is the share of clicks that turn into a call, a text or a booking.

It is also worth correcting the numbers that circulate. Agency pages commonly quote $5 to $9 per detailing click, $15 to $35 per lead and a $1,500 to $4,000 monthly budget floor, usually with no sample, no date and no definition of a lead. The measured figures are lower on both the click and the lead, and no minimum budget appears anywhere in the data. A single service can be tested for a few hundred dollars.

Are auto detailing Google Ads leads worth the cost?

Run it on your own numbers. Twenty leads at $26 is $520. Close 40 percent and you have eight booked jobs, which is about $65 of ad spend per job. On a $200 average ticket that is $1,600 in first invoices against $520 in media, and the difference is not profit, because labor, fuel, chemicals, pads, water, card fees and your own hours come out of it. On a $75 express interior wipe down the same campaign loses money.

Which is why the service you advertise decides the outcome, not the lead price. A $26 lead pointed at a $1,200 ceramic coating and a $26 lead pointed at a $75 wash are the same cost and different businesses.

The second half is repeat work, and detailing has more of it than most trades. A customer who books a full detail in April often books again in the fall, then brings a second vehicle, a spouse's car, a work truck, a boat or an RV. So track the chain rather than the first number: cost per lead, lead to booking rate, cost per booked job, average ticket, repeat booking rate, revenue per customer. A $31 lead that becomes a twice a year customer with two vehicles is worth more than a $17 lead that buys once and never answers again.

Do Local Services Ads work for auto detailing?

Only sideways, and this catches detailers out. Google's United States screening page for Local Services Ads lists an Auto Care group made of towing, tire shop (California and Florida only), car wash, auto repair shop and auto body shop. There is no auto detailing or mobile detailing category. The nearest fit is car wash, defined by Google as a professional who "cleans car interiors and exteriors," and that is the category a detailer applies under.

Its requirements are lighter than the rest of the group. Car wash asks for a business background check and an owner background check for select users only, a business check and a business representative check at registration for select users only, general liability and professional liability insurance, and a state business license and owner license where local law requires them. It does not ask for garage keepers liability insurance, which is the expensive line on the towing and auto repair lists. Google says screening takes three to four weeks on average, and you need a claimed and verified Google Business Profile linked to the account before any of it starts. Since October 2025, Google Guaranteed and Google Screened have been merged into one Google Verified badge.

There is a second change coming. Google is moving Local Services Ads into Google Ads as Performance Max campaigns with pay per lead goals. The first United States phase announced for August 2026 names plumbing, HVAC, electrical, appliance repair, house cleaning, lawn care, roofing, pest control and moving, introduced with the word "including," so treat the list as examples rather than a closed set. Detailing and car wash are not named. The late 2026 phase covers service area businesses without a physical storefront, which is what a mobile detailer is, and 2027 covers everything remaining. Those campaigns are keywordless, run on Search and Maps only, and draw their information from your Google Business Profile, so a stale profile becomes a stale ad.

How should a detailing business set a monthly Google Ads budget?

Start from booked jobs, work backwards, and pick one service.

Decide how many jobs you want from paid search. Say eight a month. At a 40 percent close rate that needs 20 leads, and at $26 a lead that is about $520 a month in media. Detailing does not need a $2,000 floor to produce a readable result.

Pick the service by ticket, not by lead price. All four measured categories land between $20 and $25 a lead, so choose the one with the best margin you can actually deliver at volume. For most one truck operations that is a full interior or a maintenance detail, not an express wash.

Tighten geography before you raise the bid. Mobile detailing is the trade where a cheap lead an hour away is a loss on fuel and dead time. Set the radius to what you will genuinely drive, and exclude the outer ring rather than hoping it converts.

Answer every call and reply to every form. A lead you paid for and did not pick up is spend, and a car owner with a filthy interior calls the next result. Give each campaign its own tracked local number so you can see which ad produced which call, and route missed calls to a text back.

Watch the daily spend, not just the monthly total. A daily budget in Google Ads is an average Google is allowed to exceed on a busy day, so a campaign set at $20 a day can bill far more before you notice at the end of the month. Put a real time budget alert on the account and you will catch it the same afternoon rather than on the invoice.

Judge it after 30 to 60 days on cost per booked job. Cost per lead alone will tell you the channel is cheap while a bad close rate quietly makes it expensive.

What actually lowers a detailing cost per lead

Split the campaigns by service. Interior detailing, exterior and paint care, ceramic coating, and boat or RV detailing are different searches from different buyers with different budgets, and each deserves its own campaign, its own ad and its own page. A search for "interior car detailing pet hair" that lands on a before and after of a back seat and a price converts. The same search landing on "premium full service detailing" does not.

Put the transformation in the image. 99 Calls says the same thing from the landing page side, that before and after photos are particularly powerful in this trade because a customer can judge the quality instantly. A split of the same surface from the same angle beats any stock photo of a shiny car.

Answer the mobile questions in the ad itself: that you come to them, how far you travel, and what the service costs or starts at. Those three lines are what separate a booking from a price shopper.

The weak point for most detailers is producing that creative. Five services, each needing a feed image, a vertical story and three or four display sizes, is 25 to 30 files before a single test variant, and each needs the right vehicle, the right surface and the right towns named. AdsCreator builds that set from one service page URL or a one sentence offer, with ad copy and on-brand images in every Facebook, Instagram and Google size. See the auto detailing advertising page for what it produces, or compare with the Google Ads cost for auto repair shops and the Google Ads cost for carpet cleaning, two trades whose customers overlap with a detailing book. For the form side, lead generation ads covers instant forms that collect the vehicle and the service wanted without a landing page.
