Google Ads for tree service cost about $15 per click and $85 to $110 per lead in 2026, and the average tree service lead cost $95 through July. Those figures come from 99 Calls, which published Google Ads data from tree service campaigns it has managed since 2024, split by job and by advertiser percentile. Debris cleanup is the cheapest lead at $56 and tree trimming the most expensive at $105. Local Services Ads, the pay per lead units above the search results, charged $48.94 per lead on average and $58.77 at the median when we checked on September 17, 2026.
Below is every figure worth budgeting with and where it comes from, how lead costs moved month by month in 2026, why the click price fell while the lead price rose, how tree service compares with other trades, and how to turn all of it into a monthly budget you can defend.
How much does a tree service lead cost on Google Ads?
A typical tree service company paid $85 to $110 per Google Ads lead in the first half of 2026. The best 10 percent of advertisers paid $51 to $92, and companies in the most expensive markets paid $101 to $225. A lead here means a real prospect who called, filled in a form, requested a quote or booked, not a click. 99 Calls does not publish how many campaigns sit behind the report, so read it as a strong benchmark from one agency's accounts rather than a census of the trade.
| Month, 2026 | Top 10% of advertisers | Median advertiser | High cost markets |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | $92 | $94 | $225 |
| February | $79 | $99 | $101 |
| March | $69 | $110 | $162 |
| April | $89 | $96 | $129 |
| May | $64 | $92 | $102 |
| June | $51 | $85 | $133 |
Two things stand out. The median drifted down through spring, from $110 in March to $85 in June. And the high cost column jumps around far more than the median, from $225 in January to $101 a month later. That is what weather does to this trade: a storm week puts every crew in the county into the same auction at once.
What does a tree service lead cost by job type?
Not every tree job costs the same to sell. These are 99 Calls figures across the tree service campaigns it manages, ordered from the cheapest lead to the most expensive.
| Job | Cost per click | Click to lead rate | Cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tree debris cleanup | $10.23 | 18.4% | $56 |
| Land and lot clearing | $11.00 | 17.0% | $65 |
| Tree removal | $20.51 | 25.8% | $80 |
| Stump grinding | $13.07 | 15.8% | $83 |
| General "tree service near me" | $17.67 | 18.7% | $94 |
| Palm tree trimming | $16.56 | 16.7% | $99 |
| Tree trimming and pruning | $19.12 | 18.2% | $105 |
Tree removal is the standout. Its click is the most expensive on the list, yet it converts 25.8 percent of clicks, so the lead lands at $80, and it produced close to 32 percent of all leads in the data. Broad "tree service near me" searches brought in more than 28 percent of leads at $94. Trimming is the surprise at $105: homeowners collect several estimates for pruning, so each lead is fought over harder. If you run one campaign for everything, you are paying a blend of these numbers and letting Google decide the mix.
Why did tree service clicks get cheaper while leads got more expensive?
Because fewer clicks turn into calls. This is the most useful finding in the whole data set, and it is easy to miss if you only watch cost per click.
| Year | Average cost per click | Click to lead rate | Average cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $20.69 | 25.3% | $82 |
| 2025 | $18.59 | 21.7% | $86 |
| 2026, through July | $15.11 | 15.9% | $95 |
The click price fell about 27 percent in two years. The lead price rose about 16 percent. The whole difference is conversion: in 2024 one click in four became a lead, in 2026 it is closer to one in six. 99 Calls points to homeowners comparing more companies, more competition from Local Services Ads and business profiles, and landing pages that have not kept up. Whatever the cause, the lever is on your side of the click. An ad that names the exact job the homeowner typed, shows your crew and equipment, and sends them to a page about that one job converts better than "full service tree care, free estimates." When the bid is not the problem, the creative is.
How much do Google Local Services Ads cost for tree service?
A tree services Local Services Ads charged lead averaged $48.94 with a $58.77 median on the 99 Calls estimator on September 17, 2026, across 5 client campaigns over the last three months, with a 10th to 90th percentile range of $38.65 to $82.98. That is roughly half to two thirds of a median search lead. Here is how it compares with neighboring trades on the same estimator and the same day:
| Trade | Average charged lead | Median charged lead | Client campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tree services | $48.94 | $58.77 | 5 |
| Landscaping contractor | $59.24 | $61.52 | 3 |
| Junk removal contractor | $47.66 | $71.17 | 4 |
| Painting contractor | $45.28 | $43.73 | 14 |
| Electrical contractor | $55.93 | $54.03 | 7 |
| Roofing contractor | $145.70 | $118.34 | 12 |
Two cautions. Five campaigns is a small sample, and the estimator moves every month; a search summary we saw the same week quoted different tree service figures than the page itself showed, so read the page before you quote a number. And when the median sits above the average, as it does for tree service, a few very cheap leads are pulling the average down, so plan around the median.
Google lists tree service as its own Local Services category, for professionals who "plant, remove, and maintain trees, among other services." To qualify in the US you need general liability and professional liability insurance, a state business license and owner license where local law requires them, and business, owner and representative checks for select users. Commercial property managers and HOAs will usually ask for a certificate of insurance before your crew starts, and if you sub out crane work or climbing, collect and track each subcontractor's certificate with certificate of insurance tracking software so an expired policy never lands on your job.
How does tree service compare with other trades on click price?
Tree service is one of the cheaper home service trades to buy clicks in. 99 Calls puts the 2026 average tree services click at $14.77, on 3,914 clicks, with campaign averages from $13.41 to $20.33. For comparison, the same report has landscaping at $8.74, junk removal at $12.66, painting at $17.61, electrical at $24.64, roofing at $25.70 and plumbing at $26.19. So tree service clicks cost a little over half of a roofing click, while a tree removal job can carry a four figure invoice. That combination is why paid search usually pays for tree companies, as long as conversion holds up.
How much should a tree service spend on Google Ads per month?
Work backward from the jobs you want. 99 Calls uses an illustrative case of a $95 lead, a 35 percent close rate and a $1,500 average job, which gives roughly one booked job for every three leads. Using the 2026 average lead cost of $95:
| Leads per month | Search budget at $95 per lead | Booked jobs at 35% | Revenue at $1,500 per job |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $950 | 3 to 4 | $4,500 to $6,000 |
| 20 | $1,900 | 7 | about $10,500 |
| 40 | $3,800 | 14 | about $21,000 |
These are planning numbers, not promises. Your close rate, your average ticket and your market decide the real answer. A sensible start for a small crew is $1,000 to $2,000 a month split between search and Local Services, with the budget weighted toward removal and "tree service near me" terms, then more money moved to whichever job books at the best cost after 60 days. Keep a storm reserve: January's $225 high cost reading shows how fast a weather event can double a lead price.
What changes when Local Services Ads move into Performance Max?
Google is moving Local Services Ads into Google Ads as Performance Max campaigns with pay per lead goals. The first US wave it named covers plumbing, HVAC, electrical, appliance repair, house cleaning, lawn care, roofing, pest control and moving, and Google says the list is "including," so it is not complete. Tree service is not named, but the later 2026 wave covers service area businesses without a physical storefront, which is most tree companies. Verified status and the badge transfer, so screening does not start over. Past Local Services performance reports stop being accessible after the move, so export your lead history now. And Google says to allow up to two weeks for results to settle, which is worth planning around if the switch lands in a busy month.
How to lower your tree service cost per lead
Split the jobs. Put removal, trimming, stump grinding, land clearing and storm cleanup in their own campaigns with their own ads and their own landing pages, which is also what 99 Calls recommends from the campaign side. Answer the phone fast, because homeowners call several companies and emergency jobs go to whoever picks up. Build your storm creative in a quiet month and keep it paused, so it runs the morning after the wind instead of a week later. And refresh the images when the season turns, since the same photo of the same crew stops earning attention after a few months in the same town.
The weak point for most tree companies is the creative. Five jobs, each needing a feed image, a vertical story and three or four display sizes, is 20 to 25 files before the storm set, and each one has to show the right tree, the right equipment and the right towns. That is either an agency invoice per offer or an owner building ads at night after the last climb. The tree service ad maker is built for that gap: paste a service page URL or type the offer, and it writes the ad copy, generates on-brand images from your colors, logo and fonts, and renders every Facebook, Instagram and Google display size in one pass, with variants to test. For search, Google Ads for contractors covers the responsive search and display asset requirements, lead generation ads covers instant forms that collect the address and the job without a landing page, and what Google Ads cost contractors and what Google Ads cost junk removal companies give you neighboring benchmarks to compare against.
