Google Ads for pool service cost about $27 per click and $240 per lead in 2026, making pool service the fifth most expensive of 27 home service trades to buy a lead in. Those figures come from 99 Calls, which publishes cost per lead from 361 home service Google Ads accounts it manages and average cost per click by industry. The monthly median ran from $142 in June to $330 in February, and the most efficient tenth of pool advertisers paid about $119 per lead while the most expensive tenth paid about $342.
Below is every figure worth budgeting with and the sample behind it, how the lead price moves through the pool season, how pool service compares with other trades, what Local Services Ads ask of a pool company, and how to size a monthly budget on what a route customer is worth rather than what a lead costs.
How much does a pool service lead cost on Google Ads?
A typical pool service company paid a median of $240 per Google Ads lead from January to August 2026. A lead here is a phone call or form from a real prospect, not a click, and the figure is ad spend only, without management fees and without Local Services Ads. 99 Calls publishes an industry month only when at least three advertisers reported leads, and pool service had three to seven advertisers per month, so this is a thin base. Read it as a range to plan with.
| Month, 2026 | Most efficient tenth | Median advertiser | Most expensive tenth | Advertisers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | $200 | $328 | $416 | 3 |
| February | $176 | $330 | $347 | 3 |
| March | $84 | $214 | $262 | 4 |
| April | $113 | $252 | $272 | 5 |
| May | $87 | $202 | $383 | 7 |
| June | $97 | $142 | $337 | 7 |
| July | $125 | $227 | $846 | 6 |
| August | $140 | $270 | $330 | 4 |
Three patterns are worth acting on. Winter leads were the most expensive, at a $328 and $330 median in January and February, on only three reporting advertisers, and an owner searching in February is usually planning a season rather than fixing a problem. The cheapest stretch was late spring into June, when pools are open, problems are visible and owners call quickly. And the July 90th percentile of $846 shows how far the worst accounts can drift in peak season, which is the case for having every offer built and tested before the summer rush.
The same firm lists a wider range on its pool service lead page: $67 to $314 per Google Ads lead nationwide over the last 12 full months, as the 10th to 90th percentile across businesses. It also says 63 percent of the pool service leads it delivered in that period came from Google Ads, 36 percent from organic search and just 1 percent from Local Services Ads.
What does a pool service click cost on Google Ads?
The average pool service click cost $27.26 in 2026, on 6,163 clicks, with campaign averages from $13.58 to $32.22. That is the third most expensive click of the 27 industries 99 Calls reports, behind only restoration and HVAC.
| Industry | Average cost per click, 2026 | Median cost per lead, Jan to Aug 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Landscaping | $8.74 | $66 |
| Junk removal | $12.66 | $56 |
| Pest control | $22.95 | $107 |
| Electrical | $24.64 | $168 |
| Roofing | $25.70 | $285 |
| Plumbing | $26.19 | $150 |
| Pool service | $27.26 | $240 |
| HVAC | $29.52 | $247 |
| Restoration services | $52.30 | not comparable, see note |
The lead column uses the 99 Calls industry benchmark, which lists water damage restoration at a $637 median and mold removal at $296 rather than one restoration row. Divide the pool click by the pool lead and you get roughly one lead for every nine clicks. That is our arithmetic across two reports from the same firm, not a figure either report prints, but it explains the budget: most of the money buys clicks from people who look at the ad, look at the page and leave.
Some agency pages quote pool service clicks at $3.50 to $9.00. We could not find a sample or a date behind that range, and it sits far below the lowest campaign average in the 99 Calls data. Budget on the published figure.
Why are pool service leads so expensive?
Because the customer is worth a lot and the trade is crowded. A pool route customer pays every month for as long as they stay, so every company in town can afford to bid high for one, and Skimmer counts a 3.6 percent rise in the number of pool service companies from 2019 to 2024, against 10.7 million pools in the United States. Its 2026 State of Pool Service report, built on more than 1,600 industry respondents and data from over one million pools, found that 47 percent of pool companies plan to increase marketing to reach their growth goals, and nearly half plan to raise marketing spend. More bidders chasing the same owners pushes both the click and the lead up.
The second reason is the calendar. Pool demand is compressed into a season, and in colder states into a few weeks around opening and closing. A company that turns its ads on the week the phones start ringing enters the auction at the same moment as everyone else.
How much do Local Services Ads cost for pool service?
There is no reliable public figure right now. 99 Calls removed pool service from its Local Services Ads cost estimator, and a charged lead price for pools that still circulates in search summaries traces back to two client campaigns, which is too few to plan with. What is published is the screening. Google splits pools into two Local Services categories. Pool cleaners, which provide "pool cleaning services, upkeep, and hygiene maintenance," must pass a business background check and an owner background check, carry general liability and professional liability insurance, and hold a state business license and owner license where local law requires them. Unlike most trades, those pool cleaner background checks are not limited to select users. Pool contractors, for "pool remodeling, repairs, and additional installation services," get the checks for select users only, with the same insurance and license list. Google says screening takes three to four weeks on average, so start it in winter.
Local Services Ads are also changing format. Google is moving them into Google Ads as Performance Max campaigns with pay per lead goals. The August 2026 first phase names plumbing, HVAC, electrical, appliance repair, house cleaning, lawn care, roofing, pest control and moving, and pool service is not on it. The late 2026 phase covers service area businesses without a physical storefront, which describes most pool routes. Google says these campaigns are keywordless, run on Search and Maps, and draw on your Google Business Profile, so keep the photos and service list there current.
How much should a pool company spend on Google Ads per month?
Work backward from route accounts, not from leads. A one time cleaning bought at a $240 lead loses money for almost every company. A weekly account pays the lead back and then keeps paying. Here is the math at the 2026 median lead cost, with a one in three close rate as an assumption you should replace with your own.
| Leads per month | Search budget at $240 per lead | New weekly accounts at 1 in 3 | Ad cost per new account |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $1,200 | 1 to 2 | about $720 |
| 10 | $2,400 | 3 to 4 | about $720 |
| 20 | $4,800 | 6 to 7 | about $720 |
Now divide $720 by what one account earns you each month after chemicals, labor and fuel. The table below uses example monthly prices, not market averages, with half of the price kept as margin.
| Your weekly service price per month | Margin at 50% | Months to pay back $720 |
|---|---|---|
| $120 | $60 | 12 |
| $150 | $75 | about 10 |
| $200 | $100 | about 7 |
If an average customer stays longer than the payback period, the campaign is profitable at the median lead cost, and every lower lead price is extra. Weight the budget toward March through June, when the median ran $142 to $252, and hold back in January and February unless your market opens early.
How to lower your pool service cost per lead
Split the offers. Weekly service, green pool cleanups, openings and closings, and equipment repair are different searches from different owners, and each deserves its own campaign, its own ad and its own page. A search for "green pool cleanup" that lands on a before and after of a green pool and a price converts. The same search landing on "full service pool care" does not.
Answer every call. 99 Calls counts a lead you paid for and did not pick up as spend, and pool owners with a problem call the next company in the results. Give each campaign its own tracked local number with a cloud business phone system so you can see which ad produced which call, and route missed calls to a text back.
Show the proof owners pay for. The same technician every week, a photo or report after each visit, test results logged and one monthly price are what separate a route company from a one time cleaner, and they belong in the ad itself, not only on the website. Use your own photos, and keep house numbers and faces out of frame.
The weak point for most pool companies is producing that creative. Four or five offers, each needing a feed image, a vertical story and three or four display sizes, is 20 to 25 files before a single variant, and each one needs the right water, the right equipment and the right neighborhoods. Adscreator builds that set from one service page URL or a one sentence offer, with ad copy and on-brand images in every Facebook, Instagram and Google size. See the pool service advertising page for what it produces, or compare with the Google Ads cost for tree service and the Google Ads cost for contractors, two trades that often share a customer with a pool route. For the form side, lead generation ads covers instant forms that collect the address and pool type without a landing page.
